Pro-form Pro 2000

Pros

The entry-level Pro 2000 delivers more than most similarly priced treadmills. Testers liked how quickly and smoothly it changed speed and incline–getting the machine whirring as fast as 12 mph takes just one finger tap. "Plus, it shows mileage to the thousandths place," says RW senior editor Meghan Loftus. "So if you're really anal, that's pretty nice."

Cons

Quibbles were minor: The display is unnecessarily busy, and it shows only speed, not pace, which runners are more accustomed to seeing. Loftus liked that it had speakers, but says, "It was hard to hear podcasts over the fan and belt."

- Size: 36" W x 80" L x 63" H

Sometimes, the best runs go nowhere at all. Treadmills can save the day (and your sanity) when the weather is bad, the sitter (or spouse) is out, or you gotta nail a super-specific workout in a tight time frame. They don't come cheap–you'll drop at least $1,000 for a reliable machine–but the current crop of 'mills is loaded with entertainment options and programs that make it well worth the investment. We tested 20 of the newest models; the eight that rose to the top will suit just about any training goal or lifestyle demand.

Choose the motor that will run with you from Chicago to Cape Town. Smooth. Powerful. Durable. Proven.

This large-frame Commercial Plus motor stays cool through the toughest workouts; creates high levels of inertia for a smooth, powerful feel; and promises a quiet in-home experience. Great for heavy use, this motor is built with high-grade components proven with our lifetime motor warranty.
